While we aren’t able to meet this Wednesday due to the bad weather and road conditions we can still come before the Lord in prayer at home. The plan for this evening was to go back to the the riches of the Psalms and used Psalm 16 to guide out prayer time, while praying using the rhythm of the transformed life of up, in, and out.
Psalm 16 is a beautiful song of David the reminds us that the Lord will not abandon our soul, as v10 shouts out. There is great joy to be found in drawing near and finding refuge in the Lord. V 3 an 4 give us this contrast of those saints of the Lord who sharpen and help build up one another compared to th those whose heart desires idols and worldly things. In the Lord, the one true God of all things, we find everything we need. He gives counsel and instruction and provides a firm foundation for our soul to be planted on to stand in the trials of life and also a beautiful inheritance to all who are held firm in him. Read and medidate on this Miktam of David tonight and praise God for he will not abandon our soul and in him are pleasures forevermore!
Prayer 1
16 Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
2 I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
I have no good apart from you.”
3 As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,
in whom is all my delight.[b]
Pray UP: Thank the Lord for his goodness towards us and help us to see how he is our only source of true goodness.
Pray IN: For the saints we are in fellowship with at Faith to be “excellent ones” who help one another in our needs and our pursuit of Jesus
Pray OUT: That we would a place for those who do not know Jesus to come and find refuge in him. Pray for someone who needs to find refuge in the Lord
Prayer 2
4 The sorrows of those who run after[c] another god shall multiply;
their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
or take their names on my lips.
5 The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;
you hold my lot.
6 The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.
7 I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;
in the night also my heart instructs me.[d]
Pray UP: for the Lord to counsel our souls and praise him for the inheritance we have in Jesus
Pray IN: that we would be a place that lifts up the one true God, a place for people to come and see the glory of Jesus at work in people
Pray OUT: for our city and that we would see a rejection of false Gods and worldly philosophies and for a revival of people who receive the inheritance God has given us in Christ.
Prayer 3
8 I have set the Lord always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being[e] rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.
10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,
or let your holy one see corruption.[f]
11 You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Pray UP: for the presence of the Holy Spirit to be felt and for our hearts and our head to know the Lord is always before us and that nearness would give our souls strength to not be shaken
Pray IN: for the church to be preserved and that the Lord would drive us to holiness and to cause us to flee from sin and corruption.
Pray OUT: for the life and joy that Jesus gives to be received by people he has put in our lives that don’t know him. Pray for someone specific right now that you know needs this life and joy.
Father we thank you for the ability to draw near the throne of grace the gift of your son Jesus. We lift these prayers up to you now that you would use them draw us nearer to you and to give us a passion to love and serve one another, and a deep love for those who don’t know Jesus. May we live to bring you glory, that the world would see all of your promises that are fulfilled in Christ. Help us to know, and to live like we know it, that you will not abandon our soul because of your marvelous grace. We look to you know knowing you are our portion and our cup you are our lot and we indeed have a beautiful inheritance because you have chosen to give it. In Jesus name, Amen.
