This past week for prayer we met outside and made the effort to invite our community in for prayer. The church is a necessary part of a city. In the church we find God’s kingdom people who are living for Jesus with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. This means our faith goes past Sunday and we take his good news with us as we go even and especially to the darkest corners to see transformation in the hearts of people and out of that to see God’s redemption and revitalization!
A lot of us would hear that and think we don’t have a gift for evangelism. You might be right, you might not be an evangelist. You are a disciple of Jesus though. Disciples make disciples. If you don’t know where to start, I want to challenge you to start right where you are. Pray for your family. Pray for your kids. Pray for your neighbors. Pray for your city and your nation and the elected representatives who are supposed to be leading justly. Pray for the church in nations you’ve never heard of. It is more than time for the church to truly be a house, that is a people, of prayer.
We get overwhelmed by how big the problems we face in the world are. Jesus tell us he has overcome the world. We need to stop trying to be Jesus and start with a small measure of faith that seeks him to do what he has promised to do in drawing people to himself! If you haven’t prayed for your city yet today, do it! Once we start praying for our city, let’s pray God opens doors and softens hearts so we can be praying with our city.
Lord Jesus may you bring the multitudes to you and may we be faithful in the small things you’ve said are good for us, things that draw us closer to you, so that your glory would go forth and bring healing, salvation, and peace to our land.
