READ: Romans 5:12-21
Get Going: How much influence has your Dad had on your life?
“How is it possible that Jesus will make this much difference to my life?”
Recap: As we are taken “further in and further on”, by the apostle Paul into what the life of follower of Jesus looks like, we saw in the beginning of chapter 5 that for believers God taking us from being His enemies to His children by placing in us the His own righteousness through the death of Jesus shedding His blood on the cross. We now are inside the household of God, (5:2), standing on the rock that is the grace of God found in Christ Jesus, (4:16 & 5:2). We are now being transformed, knowing the hope of Jesus, through our suffering which produces endurance to keep pressing further in and further on. And as we do that endurances is slowly producing the character of Christ. And with that character of Christ in our lives it produces hope that will never be put to shame because God has put His Holy Spirit in our hearts to keep on going this life. If we ever doubt in this journey we are to look to Christ who showed us his immense hope and love for us that whilst we were still sinners He died for us, (5:8).
Why because the object of Jesus’s love was us. The motivation was the joy of doing His Father’s will and getting to enjoy the glory in the Kingdom of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2). That’s why we can believe it. If while we were His enemies He died for us, how much more will He now do for us now that we are reconciled and His children?
Context: So now Paul wants us to pause for a moment and ask; “How is it possible that Jesus will make this much difference to my life?” This transformation of going from God’s enemy to God’s child. Accepting the peace we have with God and being able to enjoy it as well as rejoice in it even though we may suffer. Why because we can be certain of a future salvation that death will only sting us once and not twice
BIG IDEA: There are two Families in the human race. One of Adam & One of Jesus. In Adam the world is united in death. In Christ the world is united in life.
How God wants to transform us by His Word: For Jesus to be our King and for us to live in His Family under His influence.
