After a couple of snow nights in January, we were able to meet again for our monthly prayer night! We used our normal pattern of going to the Psalms to guide us in a sustained time of prayer, using that rhythm of the Christian life of UP, IN, and OUT to pray in some specific ways for our relationship with Lord, 0ur relationship with one another, and our relationship with friends and neighbors who are not Christians.
Looking at Psalm 1 and 2, we meditated on what it is to be blessed by the Lord and what it is to live under his rule and reign in our lives. We have a mighty, loving father in heaven and we look to him to be like a tree planted by the water, that the Lord would produce good fruit in our soul and life. We rest in these Psalms knowing truly that all who take refuge in Him are blessed! May we look to God’s word and see the glory of Jesus sung to us and an through us in the Psalms.
Take some time today to pray along and seek the Lord and his presences right where you are:
Psalm 1 & 2
Prayer 1 –
Blessed is the man[a]
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law[b] of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Pray UP – That we remember the blessing the Lord has bestowed upon us and praise him for his deliverance and transformation and continued sanctification.
Pray IN – That we would be a church that delights in the law of the Lord and that God would field the fruit of his word in our church family.
Pray OUT – Pray for the Lord would grow our heart for those who are lost and far from him, that we have a deeper compassion for the “chaff” that his word says will be driven away by the wind.
Prayer 2 –
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed
2 Why do the nations rage[c]
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
3 “Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”
4 He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
Pray UP – For the Lord to purge us of sin and give us strength to stand against temptation wherever it is coming from in our lives
Pray IN – That the Lord would help us to exemplify the righteousness imparted to us by Christ, that this would be a place people notice Jesus at work when we gather
Pray OUT – For nations who have no witness of the Gospel in them, for the hard to reach places that actively work to keep Jesus out, and for the hearts of people to bring the Gospel to these places
Prayer 3 –
Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
6 “As for me, I have set my King
on Zion, my holy hill.”
7 I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, “You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You shall break[d] them with a rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear,
and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Pray UP – That God would grow our relationship with him and we would embrace him fully as the king he is over out lives
Pray IN – That we would serve the Lord with fear and rejoice together with trembling. Pray for those who we haven’t seen at church that they would long to join in worship again.
Pray OUT – Lift up the rulers and authorities of our governments in our nation, that those in high office would acknowledge their roles as ministers of God and they would serve under him and his rule so true justice would be had in our nation.
Pray for those we know who have needs physical and spiritual needs.
Pray for any other requests that are on your heart now.
Pray to close
