This past Wednesday we had our monthly prayer meeting. This was a time for us to gather together and go before the Lord, through his word, in a time of sustained and focused prayer. If you weren’t able to make it and join in, use the guide below to read through Psalm 9 and prayer along at home. The words of the Psalm inform us to what we need to be praying for and then we use the rhythm of the transformed life in Christ of up, in, and out to focus our prayers on specific areas we long to see God working in.
Spend a few moments now praying through Psalm 9.
Prayer 1
I Will Recount Your Wonderful Deeds
9 I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.
2 I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
3 When my enemies turn back,
they stumble and perish before[c] your presence.
4 For you have maintained my just cause;
you have sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.
5 You have rebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish;
you have blotted out their name forever and ever.
6 The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins;
their cities you rooted out;
the very memory of them has perished.
7 But the Lord sits enthroned forever;
he has established his throne for justice,
8 and he judges the world with righteousness;
he judges the peoples with uprightness.
PRAY UP: Praise God for his grace and his justice and mercy but also for his wisdom that he exemplifies all those in perfect harmony.
PRAY IN: For the Lord to bring renewed passion to our times of worship together and we would sing his praise and exult his name with exuberance!
PRAY OUT: For people around us who haven’t come to Christ, that they would turn to Him and not be blotted out forever. Pray for someone specific in your life now who you know needs Jesus.
Prayer 2
9 The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
11 Sing praises to the Lord, who sits enthroned in Zion!
Tell among the peoples his deeds!
12 For he who avenges blood is mindful of them;
he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.
13 Be gracious to me, O Lord!
See my affliction from those who hate me,
O you who lift me up from the gates of death,
14 that I may recount all your praises,
that in the gates of the daughter of Zion
I may rejoice in your salvation.
PRAY UP: Remembering the Lord’s graciousness, pray for deliverance and pray for forgiveness for something that is holding you back from the Lord today.
PRAY IN: For Faith to be a place stands solid on /god and his word, that he would make us a stronghold for the Gospel to be a place of encouragement for one another. Pray for the people at Faith and needs you may know they have.
PRAY OUT: That the people around us would have their eyes open to the shaky ground they stand and they would see the days of their lives are short and it would turn them to Christ today.
Prayer 3
15 The nations have sunk in the pit that they made;
in the net that they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16 The Lord has made himself known; he has executed judgment;
the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion.[d] Selah
17 The wicked shall return to Sheol,
all the nations that forget God.
18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten,
and the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.
19 Arise, O Lord! Let not man prevail;
let the nations be judged before you!
20 Put them in fear, O Lord!
Let the nations know that they are but men! Selah
PRAY UP: with deep awe and reverence as we meditate on the greatness and power of God
PRAY IN: for Faith to remember the Lord will prevail that we would remind one another he will build this house, or else it will be built in vein. Pray for a specific need for Faith the Lord has burdened you with.
PRAY OUT: That we would faithfully carry the fear of the Lord out into our domains with us when we part so that the nations would know they are men and there is a God in heaven to turn to in grace or stand before in judgement. Pray for our city and our nation to turn from evil.
